An interview with The Project

"What's it Going to Take" featuring Mykele Hill is the third single by the American rock band The Project. We had the opportunity to chat with James Davis and talk about their work.

For those who might be discovering The Project for the first time, could you provide an introduction to the band?

The project is a band that is mainly me and Jeff Plant and just friends that I have in the business who are pro touring artists.

What inspired your third single, "What's it Going to Take"?
It's about a relationship, something people can relate to.

"What's it going to take" features Mykele Hill. How did this collaboration happen?
I saw her live and loved her voice and style and was able to get her to sing on it even thou it's not really her style and she nailed it.

The song features a distinctive sound. What were the musical influences that shaped the sound of this single?
We pulled from several artists, including Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi.

Can you tell us more about the production process of "What's it going to take"?

Me and Dennis Hill wrote it and Dennis produced it, the guys are amazing all around when it comes to music.

What is your biggest struggle right now as an independent musician?
The streaming services and distributors are a joke.

What can fans expect from The Project in 2024?

New songs and a tour.
